Two Drugs Studied in the PMG Network Awarded FDA Approval!

Congratulations to the participants and the following sites for their contributions toward medical advancement:

Perrigo received FDA approval to make generic Aldara cream.  Read Press Release.  Several PMG sites worked on trials with this drug. 

On August 26, 2010, the FDA approved Tekamlo, which is a combination drug of aliskiren/amlodipine for high blood pressure.  This is also a drug that numerous PMG sites contributed toward the development of.  Read Press Release.

Another significant development is with an IBS drug from Ironwood Pharmaceuticals called linaclotide, which was studied at the following PMG sites: Metrolina, Palmetto, Piedmont, TriCities and Unifour.  The drug met first late stage trial goals and showed that linaclotide may "reduce abdominal pain and increase bowel movements in people with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)".  A second Phase III trial is underway currently and if the drug continues to succeed in testing, Ironwood may submit it to the FDA for review with projected approval date in 2011.  Read Press Release.
